I Grew To Admire And Appreciate Roger Federer

Roger Federer

If you love tennis, how can you not appreciate the grace and beauty of Roger Federer on the tennis court. I have to admit that I needed to warm up to Federer. It was not a matter of his ability, rather it was the fact that he defeated Pete Sampras at Wimbledon in the fourth round in 2001. If you know anything about me, you know that I fell in love with Pete Sampras. It was the pure love of a tennis fan for the beauty and power of Sampras. His single-minded focus was something I connected with; however, this is about Roger Federer.

Federer, The Undisputed King Of Grass

Roger Federer was not only the king of grass, but he was also king on the hard courts. He retires with 103 career singles titles and a record 287 consecutive weeks ranked number one. Whenever the Swiss Maestro stepped on the courts, you knew he was winning. While some matches were not always easy, Federer always found a way to win. When he lost, you never asked did he give it his all. Interesting, he always made it look so easy and that is why so many people failed to appreciate the hard work he put in behind the scenes to make it look easy.

Roger Federer Was A Special Tennis Player

Federer emanated beauty and grace! There is no other way of saying this. He glided gracefully around the court and yet his strokes were lethal. Players never took him for granted and many have tried to rattle him and few succeeded. Yet, he never went down without a fight. We will miss him, but every fan knows that the career of every athlete eventually comes to an end. Federer may have been forced out because of knee injury but give him credit for not dragging it out for years. He realized he had done what we came to do on the tennis court and sustaining further injury would benefit no one. We wish him all the best!
