Alycia Parks Defeats Crowd Choice For Title

Alycia Parks

Alycia Parks, at six feet one inch, presents an image of confidence. She is a mixture of Serena Williams, Venus Williams, and Naomi Osaka. What do I mean by that? She has taken all the best tennis traits of each player and found a way to combine them in a way that is uniquely Alycia Parks.

Alycia Parks Is No Longer Unknown

I had heard her name a few years ago, I even watched her play. What struck me then was her serve. She has been quietly working her way into the professional arena. She played her first ITF event in 2016 and was a member of the USA Team that won the 2023 inaugural United Cup title in Australia. An experience, which I think increased her confidence.

Parks Brings ‘A’ Game Against Crowd Favorite

It is always difficult to play an opponent on their home soil. The number five ranked player and top seed, Caroline Garcia, had most of the crowd behind her. Garcia used the energy of the crowd to boost her energy in all of her matches and they were once again behind her. However, there was a moment of silence after Garcia lost the first set in a closely contested tiebreaker. Parks had done the unthinkable, won the first set. The American kept her calm, and her big serve came to her rescue many times when she was under pressure.

Alycia Parks Wobbled A Bit In Set Two

It was not a surprise that Garcia would elevate her game, and Parks would start feeling the pressure of potentially winning her first WTA singles title. The French player got her first break opportunity in the fifth game of the second set, but Parks was quick to erase that with her big serve. Parks brought the power, the speed, and a pretty good net game to the table, which created problems for the top seed.

Parks Experiences The Joy Of Victory

Each battled fiercely in the second set for supremacy. They each had one break point opportunity and failed to capitalize. Garcia needed to win the second set to extend the match; therefore, all the pressure was on the French player. Parks was in unfamiliar territory and gave Garcia a few more break point opportunities in set two. The tension mounted on both sides of the net. In the end, it was Parks who broke first in the twelfth game of the second set to win 7-6(7), 7-5 [on a double fault from Garcia] and claim the 2023 title in Lyon.
