Two American Success Stories At Wimbledon

American success

Christopher Eubanks is the American male most likely not to still be in the Wimbledon draw this late in the tournament. Prior to this year, he was ranked outside the top hundred. Eubanks had never been to a tournament final. Fast forward to late June and Eubanks has not only been to a final, but he also won his first ATP tour title.

Success Breeds Success, It’s That Simple

I have always felt that playing a tournament the week before a major could either inspire you to go on and do great things, or it can ruin things completely. Most players coming off a tournament before a major struggle with fatigue and often lose early in the tournament. Christopher Eubanks is fit and inspired by his pre-Wimbledon victory. I imagine he realizes that opportunity in sport must be capitalized on for you to be successful. He is taking full advantage of this opportunity.

A Season Of Firsts For Christopher Eubanks

In his first appearance he is into the quarterfinals of a major for the first time in his career. He got his first top five victory today when he defeated [5] Stefanos Tsitsipas 3-6, 7-6(4), 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. Things did not start off well for the American, but he showed us that he is also a fighter. He dug deep and dug even deeper to upset Tsitsipas in a thrilling five-set battle.

Eubanks Knocked Out Two Seeds Already

His first seeded opponent was the British number one, [12] Cameron Norrie. He won that encounter in four sets. This gets only tougher for the American. He plays the dangerous [3] Daniil Medvedev next. The Russian player won their only encounter earlier this year in straight sets.

Madison Keys Is Making A Resurgence

It has been an injury prone career for the American. Surgery, like so many other athletes, is a part of her story. Things were looking so promising for [25] Madison Keys when she made it to the US Open final in 2017. Then life intervened. Thus, it is very nice to see her playing with so much confidence and finding a way to win even when she is not playing her best.

Keys has made it to the semifinals of the other three majors. Standing in her way to the semifinals is [2} Aryna Sabalenka. They have played twice before and are tied at one apiece. Expect a big serving battle with a lot of noise.
