Ashlyn Krueger Topples Number One Seed For First Title

Ashlyn Krueger gets the mover of the week honors with her blistering performance at the Japan Open. She ripped the trophy right out the hands on the number one seed, Lin Zhu. Krueger came out swinging hard and powered her way through the first set relatively easily. As expected, the number one seed fought back in the second set.

Ashlyn Krueger Withstands The Challenge

It was a tussle but credit the nineteen-year-old for holding her nerves. The American was shaken by Zhu, but it did not derail her. Ashlyn Krueger was focused on the finishing line, the trophy. She played with freedom and confidence to win 6-3, 7-6(6). It was nice to see such fearless abandon and yet, she played with a clear strategy. Great coaching from the ironman of tennis, Michael Joyce. With her performance, Krueger cracks the top hundred at a career high of seventy-three.

ATP:  there were no changes in the top ten this past week due to Davis Cup matches. The current top four players are: [1] Novak Djokovic; [2] Carlos Alcaraz; [3] Daniil Medvedev; and [4] Holger Rune.

WTA: there were a few positional changes and one member change. There is a new number ten, Barbora Krejcikova is back in the top ten. Jessica Pegula and Elena Rybakina traded places to #4 and #5, respectively. The current top four players are: [1] Aryna Sabalenka; [2] Iga Swiatek; [3] Coco Gauff; and [4] Jessica Pegula.
