Coco Gauff, at just 22 years old, has made a remarkable achievement by reaching the semifinals of all four majors, a feat not accomplished since Maria Sharapova’s 2004 performance. Unlike Sharapova, who reached all four in a single year, Gauff’s journey has been marked by persistence and resilience across her career. In a thrilling match, Gauff faced her former doubles partner, [4] Jessica Pegula, who had a 5:3 lead in their head-to-head encounters. Despite the odds favoring Pegula to advance to her first Wimbledon semifinal, [7] Coco Gauff displayed her trademark tenacity.

The ten-year age gap between Gauff and Pegula adds an intriguing dynamic to their rivalry. Both have claimed eleven titles, but Gauff holds the edge with her major titles. In today’s match, Gauff’s double faults cost her the first set. However, she demonstrated her ability to overcome setbacks by refocusing her efforts. In contrast, Pegula struggled to capitalize on break points in the second set and found herself trailing in the third. While Gauff maintained her composure, Pegula’s visible stress signaled the slipping away of her opportunity. Youth conquered age 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

American Taylor Townsend is out of the singles; however, she is still going strong in doubles. Along with her doubles partner, Katerina Siniakova, they are the number one seeds. They defeated the sixteenth seeds, Asia Muhammad and Fanny Stollar, 6-3, 6-3. They capitalized on their break point opportunities, while only giving their opponent one break point opportunity. Unfortunately for Muhammad and Stollar they failed to capitalize and the rest is history.

She came close this year in Austin, where she made the final. She has yet to win the doubles title at the US Open. Although she made it to the final in 2022 and 2025. I think she would love to claim that US Open doubles title just as much as she would love to claim her first singles title.
Zverev Amongst The Other Seeded Day Nine Winners
[2] Alexander Zverev was forced to complete his match against [13] Jiri Lehecka in two days. Zverev led 2-0 sets and the third set was tied at 3:3 when they were forced to stop play. Apparently, the German needed some time to get going today and he lost the third set never winning another game. They went to a fourth set tiebreaker, the Czech player giving everything he had. The fourth set was a battle, with both players protecting their serve and not giving the other any breakpoint opportunity. The German narrowly escaped a fifth set, winning 6-4, 7-5, 3-6, 7-6(6). Next up for Zverev is American, Taylor Fritz. Fritz leads that H2H 10:5. The American also leads their H2H on grass 3:2.

[10] Karolina Muchova defeated [14] Naomi Osaka 7-6(4), 6-4 and will next play Gauff in the semifinals.
