Simona Halep Amongst Wimbledon Semifinalists

Halep, Simona

[16] Simona Halep dashed the hopes of many American tennis fans when she defeated the last American in the singles draw. Halep defeated [20] Amanda Anisimova 6-2, 6-4. The Romanian is the only player left in the singles draw who has been to a major final and who has won two major finals. Thus, she becomes the favorite to lift another major trophy. She has never made the final at the US Open; however, Halep has won Wimbledon and Roland Garros. She leads the head-to-head 2:1 against Elena Rybakina, but both those wins went to three sets and each had one tiebreak set. Thus, expect this encounter to be another battle.

Elena Rybakina Will Battle Simona Halep For Final Berth

Ons Jabeur, The Highest Seed Left In The Draw

[3] Ons Jabeur defeated Marie Bouzkova in three sets yesterday to make her first major semifinal. However, she has been to the quarterfinals before at the Australian Open and last year at Wimbledon. Jabeur would love to make more history, but first she has to get past the resurgent Tatjana Maria. The Tunisian leads their head-to-head 2:1. If she gets by the German, she will face either Simona Halep or Elena Rybakina. Jabeur is tied 2:2 with Halep and leads Rybakina 2:1.

Tatjana Maria Hopes To Continue Her Run Against Jabeur

Tatjana Maria is the Cinderella story of Wimbledon. At thirty-four years old, she is playing some of her best tennis ever. She defeated fellow countrywoman yesterday in three tough sets to get to her first ever major semifinal. This tournament has been one of many firsts for Maria. Prior to this tournament, the furthest she had ever been in the majors was the second round. She is currently ranked 103 and would dearly love to win the title, but then, so do all the other semifinalists.
