Diana Shnaider Makes First WTA Singles Final

Diana Shnaider

Diana Shnaider is knocking at the door. The nineteen-year-old Russian made it to the Ningbo Open final. This was her first WTA singles final. Although she lost easily to the number one seed, a top ten player, she defeated the number two seed, Petra Kvitova. Unfortunately, I missed the match; however, I got to see Shnaider play live earlier this year. She is another big hitter and moves well.

Diana Shnaider Has Her Own Style

The Russian player knows her way around the tennis court. Although she did not win a junior major title in singles, she has won three of the four majors as a junior in doubles. That must count for something. She first caught my eye because she covers her head with a polka-dot bandana, which I quite like as I play tennis with my head covered with a cotton bandana.

Former College Player Turned Pro

Diana Shnaider played one year of college tennis, North Carolina State, before turning professional this year. The year in college did a lot for her tennis and her confidence. What will this nineteen year do next season? I am curious to see as she strikes me as a very intelligent young lady. For her performance, Shnaider gets the mover of the week honors as well as a career high ranking.
